John Hanson
Board Member
John Hanson is a dedicated advocate for both music and community service in the White Lake area. With a deep passion for volunteerism and a strong commitment to fostering local culture, John has spent over 15 years serving as a volunteer diver with the Muskegon County Sheriff Dive Team and continues his work as the current president of the West Michigan Underwater Preserve. His leadership extends into numerous community initiatives, where he works to enhance the vibrancy of the White Lake region.
John’s community involvement includes serving on the board of White Lake Wanderland, an organization devoted to creating engaging, low-cost, and free activities for area residents. He also plays an active role as president of the White Lake Snow Farmers, an organization focused on outdoor recreation, and as a board member of Walk The Beat White Lake, where he supports local music events and programs. His efforts in organizing the popular Float-A-Palooza event and volunteering with the Chamber of Commerce further reflect his commitment to enriching community life.
A passionate musician, John recently embraced the ukulele, building on a lifelong love of music that began with playing the trumpet in high school and as part of a dance band. His enthusiasm for music aligns seamlessly with the mission of The Servant Musician, as he continues to explore the power of music in bringing people together.
Having retired from a successful career at Alcoa/Howmet in 2019, John now focuses on his diverse community efforts alongside his wife, Valerie. Together, they own and operate Art of Cookery, a cooking school and retail venture in Whitehall, and Gotta Go Tours, a transport service offering engaging tours and airport transfers. They share a blended family of eight grown children and a parrot, Bobbie, who enjoys listening to ukulele music.
