Cheyney Rushing
Board Treasurer
Until a few years ago, Cheyney Rushing had an ‘on-again, off-again’ relationship with musical instruments over the decades, and he may be all too eager to share his thoughts on why that was with anyone who, out of frustration, hasn’t picked up their guitar, or clarinet, or sat down at the piano in a while.
While growing up, Cheyney’s family was not necessarily a musical one, but his parents were encouraging with piano lessons and supportive when he started band as a class in middle school and stuck with it playing the trumpet through high school. Since then, Cheyney has collected and enjoys playing a variety of instruments, but his current concentration is on the classical guitar (but that banjo is twanging his name!).
Cheyney really enjoys the music scene in his community, listening and playing at open mic nights, and being The Kipi Chick’s roadie. Cheyney believes in music as therapy and has volunteered at music festivals including The Michigan Irish Music Festival, Walk the Beat, Burning Foot, and ROTHBURY.
Professionally, Cheyney works in information technology as a programmer and systems analyst. Cheyney is a veteran of the United States Army and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cheyney served as his local post’s Quartermaster for 20 years and also served as the charitable gaming chairperson for ten years before retiring in 2022; encouraging newer members with new ideas to step up and be involved.
